As previously reported, the line-up for this year’s Bloc Weekender – which includes Aphex Twin, FSOL, Lee Perry, Carl Craig, Bambaataa, Metro Area, Kode 9 and a zillion other bassbin bothers – is frankly ridiculous. Well, with today’s announcement that outlandish Chicago techno legend Green Velvet has also joined the bill, it just got a little more so. Barring the altogether unlikely event of a meteor annialating Minehead before March 13th, Bloc will be one of the festivals not to be missed in 2009.
Green Velvet aka Curtis A. Jones made club-flooring Chicago house music as Cajmere (if you don’t already know it, check 1992′s amazing ‘Perculator’) on his Cajual label before becoming the wig-wearing eccentric personality that subsequently brought us such acid-flecked classics as ‘Preacher Man’, ‘Answering Machine’ and his biggest hit to date, ‘La La Land’.
Also now playing Bloc will be experimental electronic producer/artist and somtime Autechre/Aphex collaborator Russell Haswell.
"We promised an absolutely tearing line up for Bloc 09 and by gum we’ve delivered," said the uncharacteristically understated festival promoters. "Difficult though it is to believe, there are still line up announcements to be made…"
Bloc takes place from 13-15 March at Butlins Holiday Resort Minehead, near Bristol. For more info and to book tickets, click here
