Fever Ray + Squarepusher join Ether line-up

A raft of new additions to the line-up for this year’s Ether festival have been announced, including Squarepusher and Fever Ray

 

Tom’Squarepusher’ Jenkinson will headline a concert on Friday 24th Aprilat Cloe Ballroom, supported by South Africa’s hotly-tipped Blk Jks and DJ Mo. There’ll be a full light show, and Jenkinsonwill be joined by virtuoso drummer Alex Thomas. Also newly announced: ashow on Sunday12th April in the Purcell Room from Adam Matt, OrenMarshall, OMM and The Boxettes.

The support acts forpreviously announced concerts have now been revealed. Charli XCX willopen for Peaches, who’s playing the Royal Festival Hall on Friday 10thApril, and Royksopp will be joined by their sometime collaborator, TheKnife’s Karin Dreijer Andersson, who’ll be performing solo as Fever Rayfor the first time ever on UK shores. Tim Exile will play a free"post-show" for Mouse on Mars on Friday 17th April in the CloreBallroom, and Plaid will follow their performance on Saturday 18thApril with gamelan master Rahayu Supanggha with a piece called Sculpture unveiled in the Front Room of the Queen Ellizabeth Hal.

Thereare a bunch of free events on as well: as part of Ether 09′s ‘ElectricAfrica’ strand, Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit will perform as The VeryBest at the Clore Ballroom on Sunday 12th April – don’t miss thischance to catch this unlikely partnership bring its exuberant fusion ofAfrican vocals and DJ’d western pop to life. At 5.15pm on April 10th inQEH’s Front Room, electro soldier Andrea Parker will be spinning, andat the same time in the same place on April 17th there’ll be a livecollaboration between Tim Exile, who’s new album Listening Tree isforthcoming on Warp Records. Look out too for performane/installationworks from Ujino on the Festival Terrace and outside The HaywardGalllery. Away from the Southbank Centre, The Whitest Boy Alive willplay a free in-store at Rough Trade East on Friday 17th April, inassociation with Ether.

Film-wise, there’s plenty onoffer n’all: Jonathan Demme’s Stop Making Sense, still the greatestconcert film of all time, will be screening on April 9th and 10th atthe BFI Southbank, showing Ether headliner David Byrne in his jerkyprime as leader of Talking Heads. A film-based event called TrueStories takes place on Friday 10th April and, later that day, there’s achance to catch The Delian Mode – a documentary about the life of BBCRadiophonic Workshop heroine Delia Derbyshire. British Sea Powerprovide a live score for Man of Aran at the BFI on Thursday 23rd April. 

Last,but not least, the Purcell Room will be hosting a series of talks. OnApril 16th, Sukhdev Sandhu (author of Night Haunts) and John King(author of Human Punk) will discuss post-punk; on April 20th, ChristianFennesz, Rosy Parlane and CM Von Hausswolff will talk about their workand the label to which they’re attached, Touch . Maverick Germancomposer Heiner Goebbels will discuss his own oeuvre on Friday 24thApril, shortly prior to the London Sinfonietta performing portions ofit, and then, later that night, Rob Da Bank will consider ‘FestivalsFuture’.
