You know Blank Dogs? That one-man Brooklyn act who’s put out tons of music on low-quantity vinyl and cassette over the last couple of years – and given even more away on his blog?
We’ve been twittering (not Twittering) about him for a while, so we were pretty glad to get his new full-length album Under And Under in the post this morning. We were even gladder when it sounded like one of the best things we’ve heard this year.
We don’t know a massive about about Mr. Blank Dog as he’s sometimes referred to – he only poses for photos in masks, or with his face covered by a sheet, and when we tried to interview him a while ago it fell through. Still, all the chat about who he is and what he’s like is neither here nor there when Under And Under is this good – imagine Joy Division with Wavves’ lo-fi tendancies; or No Age if they were real sweet-boys. Or Ariel Pink if he still made albums like The Doldrums and Worn Copy. Forgive the comparison madness, but we’re excited about this one.
It’ll be coming out on In The Red Records on May 26, on CD and vinyl – the vinyl features five extra tracks: ‘Finding Out Again’, ‘Second Time’, ‘The New Things’, ‘Landmarks’ and ‘Wrong Then’. Both members of Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls have contributed to the release.
