Coinciding with the Short Circuit season at London’s Roundhouse, ‘A Taste of Sónar’ takes place on May 15th and will showcase acts from this year’s edition of the popular Spanish festival, including Erol Alkan (pictured) and Jeff Mills.
Alkan will be presenting his Disco 3000 project, in which he re-edits and toughens up the disco music "of yesterday, today and forever" into something new and doubtless very, very danceable. Jeff Mills will be performing The Trip, an audio-visual show which finds him mixing his own music with scenes from iconic and obscure science fiction films from the early days of cinema.
Moderat is a collaboration between Modeselektor, Apparat and visuals specialist Pfadfinderei; they’ll be performing live in support of their forthcoming debut LP for BPitch control. Oh, and Jon Hopkins, recently signed to Domino offshoot Double Six, will perform with Warp’s Time Exile and Roland Olbeter, creator of Soundclusters, an orchestra comprised of 5 "robot" instruments. Nice. To cater for your bass needs, Mary Anne Hobbs will host a dubsteppish stage, with Tectonic head honcho Pinch, Hyperdub’s Ikonika and One Handed Music’s up-and-coming hip-hop producers Paul White and Bullion on the decks.
Other Short Circuit events include a showcase from Touch, featuring Philip Jeck and Biosphere, a performance from Can’s Holger Czukay and a day in celebration of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. For more information, click here.
