The final, complete line-up for this year’s Mutek festival in Montreal has been announced – with the likes of Carl Craig, Wolfgang Voigt and Ricardo Villalobos among the names assembled.
On Wednesday 28th May, Wolfgang Voigt will present the North American premiere of his GAS show, the live a/v incarnation of his celebrated 90s ambient techno project. Pilooski and Zombie Zombie are among the other notable acts performing that night. On Thursday 29th, Can’s Jaki Liebezeit will collaborate on-stage with Burnt Friedman, plus a live show from US post-rockers The Fun Years (whose Baby It’s Cold Inside was one of 2008′s best albums). Appleblim will make his Canadian DJ debut, while dub-techno perennial Deadbeat play with vocalist Paul St Hilaire, and Modeselektor and Apparat join forces with Pfadfinderei to play as Moderat. DMZ’s Mala brings up the rear.
On Friday 29 May Monolake‘s Robert Henke and light artist Christopher Bauder bring their sense-frying Atom installation to Montreal’s Theatre Maisonneuve, while steely Yorkshiremen SND and Berlin’s NSI (Tobias Freund and Max Loderbauer) plough a similar furrow between abstract sound-art and tunnelist techno. Ghislain Poirier and Mike Shannon are also on board.
Saturday 30 sees the debut Canadian performance from Kompakt stalwart and sometime Orb member Thomas Fehlmann. Brendan Moeller AKA Beat Pharmacy will play live as well, supported by DJ sets from Trus’me and The Mole. Raster-Noton will present a label showcase, featuring Atom TM, Byetone and Carsten Nicolai performing both as Alva-Noto and with Ryoji Ikeda as Cyclo. The Sight Below and Lusine are among the other confirmed acts.
RA curate a night at Metropolis aimed squarely at the dancefloor, with sets promised from tobias. (AKA Tobias Freund), dOP, Carl Craig, not to mention a live collaboration between Mathew Jonson and Dandy Jack.
On Sunday 31 May, Ricardo Villalobos will play a “marathon” DJ set back to back with Perlon head honcho Zip. There’s also the highly-anticipated return of Akufen, with his first live showcase of material since 2004. Mateo & Pheek, Stephan Beaupre and Wagon Repair’s Modern Deep Left Quartet are also set to play.
