Jamie Lidell has announced details of his new album, Compass.
A former collaborator with Cristian Vogel as part of Super_Collider, Lidell reinvented himself as a soul boy with the release of 2005’s Multiply, and quickly gathered a rep as a stunning live performer as an all singing, all beatboxing, all live-editing one man band.
2008’s Jim saw Lidell crossover further into the indie sect, and he’s clearly still welcome there: Compass features appearances from Beck and his keyboardist Brian LeBarton, Feist, members of Grizzly Bear (Chris Taylor, Daniel Rossen and Chris Bear) Pat Sansone from Wilco, Gonzalez, R&B drummer James Gadson and Nikka Costa [via Pitchfork].
Compass will be released on May 18 via Warp. It was recorded at Hudson Studios, LA, and Chris Taylor contributed production and mixing at Ontario’s Niagara Escarpment.
