The FACT office is currently all about Toro Y Moi’s excellent Causers Of This LP.
Released on Febuary 22, Causers Of This is the debut offering from Toro, AKA South Carolina’s Chaz Bundick. He cites influences as diverse as Dilla, Sonic Youth, Animal Collective and Daft Punk, and it all comes across in the album’s freewheeling, cut ‘n paste sound – Bundick setting his sweet vocal harmonies against boogie-down basslines, pumping digital rhythms and oodles of distortion and delay.
It’s psychedelia, 2010-style, and there’s no doubt in our mind that Causers Of This will be one of the year’s cult sensations. Download last year’s single ‘Blessa’ – which opens the album – in 320 bitrate and you’ll see why.
