i am picky, and i am jaded, and I honestly thing this album is disappointing. Dry and featureless, and not in the oddly effective way that Dettmann's best work is. Compare everything on here to, I dunno, his remix of Deetron or the first couple of MDR 12"s or the Scenario EP w/ Klock. And though Shed's spoken word bit was fricking stupid, it came in the middle of a far richer and more inventive LP. Here Dettmann lets the music speak for itself and to me it says v little at all. 'Argon' stands out, but in the main I can't see much on this record that will stand up in 10, 20 years time. It's got nothing to do with sounding "new" or "old" and everything to do with personality or lack thereof - though it's an easy criticism to make of techno records, I honestly feel a lack of character in this one

I'm amazed at the number of respectable heads who seem quietly approving of this record. But that seems the be the limit of it. No one seems in the least bit blown away by it, but everyone seems like they're trying real hard to like it and not to say that they don't

excuse the lengthy rant :)

"If you’re a particularly picky or jaded listener, Dettmann is not a groundbreaking album, but it’s definitely a great one."

good call. haven't listened to this enough to reach a full assessment of it yet, but i think this sounds about right.
