FACT will return to Camden’s Lock Tavern for another free session on Sunday May 9, with sets from Actress, D1 and Slackk.

Actress is the man behind the Werk Discs and Thriller labels, home to Lukid, Zomby, Lone and more, and he’s also the man responsible for much of our favourite music in recent times. His Hazvyille album – described in our Best Albums of the Decade round-up as “a timeless record; a collection of compressed house tracks that inhabit some strange purgatory between Detroit and Brixton, stifled by small walls and skunk smoke” – is the stuff of legends here, and its follow-up, Splazsh, is due out this year on Honest Jon’s and is fantastic. God knows what Actress is gonna play – his sets are unpredictable, and draw for boogie and hip-hop as much as they do Detroit techno and hardcore rave – but you won’t want to miss it.

D1 cemented his place in dubstep history with a series of releases in the genre’s DMZ and Tempa dominated half-step days, amongst them the incredible ‘Crack Bong’, a track whose brittle drums, time-stretched samples and main pulse, warped to disorientating proportions, made it perhaps the scariest thing dubstep had produced at that point in its history. D1 releases aren’t frequent, but they’re pretty much almost great: this year’s ‘Jus Business’ / ‘Pitcher’ single is one of the dubstep tracks of the year, and other semi-recent tracks like ‘Cave’, ‘Ongie Bongie’ and cult dubplate ‘Sorrow’ are always guaranteed stupid reactions on the dancefloor. Like Actress, D1 doesn’t play out every day, so this isn’t one to miss.

Slackk rounds off our list of guests for this event – the man behind the Grimetapes website (Slackk fact: his Wiley Vol. 1 mixtape is better than any actual Wiley album), he’s been making some of our favourite house music of the year, and his ‘Theme from Slackk’ has recently been signed to Glasgow’s Numbers empire. His DJ sets feature South African house jams we’re not even gonna pretend to have heard of with plenty of his own productions and, of course, grime – both modern and classic.

In support are your FACT DJs Tom, Ant and Kiran, who have some belters up their sleeves themselves.

Once again, that’s Sunday May 9, free entry. And we know we always say this, but get there early. Our last Lock Tavern event was one in, one out from 5pm, and previous Sunday sessions have proved similarly popular. No excuses.
