[...] “Bianca gives a stunning performance that’s somewhere between Joanna Newsom and Tom Waits on ‘Grey Oceans’. I don’t know what “I’m watching myself / like an old movie on colour TV” really means, but it’s far from the most suspect lyric that’s featured on a CocoRosie song.” - full review [...]

maybe I didn't make the bias comment clear enough - CocoRosie are one of my favourite bands, and everything they do (except about half of Ghostface and Stillborn) is pretty great in my eyes. I'm biased towards them, not against them.

Caught them live the other week, was really enjoyable I didn't like all the stuff they played but it was still fun. I'll probably pick up the album.

i know it's not fashionable to like cocorosie these days, and i think it's a real shame - imo this album is not getting the attention it deserves. the sisters approach music from all angles, inventing genres, being (as horribly saccharine as this sounds) "true to themselves", and copying no one. so many artists simply blatantly rip each other off, and they continue to garner hype and praise for all corners of the internet. i'll never understand it... i don't completely understand cocorosie either, and i don't always love what they do, but i have to say i have nothing but admiration for them. anyway - the review was still an enjoyable read. but what's with the bias? :)
