The Pop Group is the latest act to reform for a series of ATP gigs and, in this case, a brand new album, according to The A.V. Club.

The politically motivated, Bristol-orbiting band – led by Gareth Sager and basketball-tall Mark Stewart – were one of the key British post-punk groups, with a no-nonsense but unusually psychedelic style influenced by dub and free jazz. They remain best known for their classic singles ‘She Is Beyond Good And Evil’ and ‘We Are All Prostitutes’, as well as the albums Y (1979) and For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? (1980). The output of the band, and that of Stewart once he went solo, has been cited as hugely influential by a diverse range of artists including Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails, Tricky and Sonic Youth.

Having been inactive as a unit for 30 years, the band are preparing a new album entitled The Alternate. Details of that, and of the planned live dates, are forthcoming; we’ll update you when we know more.
