Modern lo-fi touchstone Nathan âWavvesâ Williams will return with a new album this summer.
Titled King of the Beach, it will be released on Bella Union on August 2, and follows a tempestuous 2009 for Williams that saw him fight on stage at the Pitchfork festival, fall out with band mates and all sorts of geeky shit.
According to the press sheet for King of the Beach, the album sees him âcut deeper into the bleeding throat catharsis and â60s sunshine soulâ that heâs known for, while also âflipping out with elements of primitive electronics and psychedelic studio experimentation.â
âThere was a conscious effort going into this that I didnât want to make the same record again. I already made the same record twice, with the same fucking cover art,â says Williams. âIt wasnât overbearing, but I didnât want to recreate something Iâd done. I wanted to make something bigger, something stronger.â
King of the Beach was recorded over three months at Sweet Tea Recording, Mississippi, home of Dennis Herring, who produced the last two Modest Mouse albums and helped on this one.
