By his standards, New York’s Drew Lustman has been quiet this year.
In 2009, Lustman, better known as FaltyDL, released two albums, a sprawling skyscraper for Planet Mu titled Love is a Liability, and a shorter, dustier mini-LP titled Bravery. Needless to say, he hasn’t released quite that much in 2010 – he probably needed a rest.
Anyway, the house/garage head is preparing to drop two EPs for Planet Mu in the not-to-distant future, following the excellent All in the Place EP for Rush Hour. First up is Phreqaflex, which from the sound samples on the Mu website, sounds like a continuation of the inner city 2step Lustman explored to such great effect on Love is a Liability, with nods to both Burial’s ghostly rhythms and Bump ‘n’ Flex’s swanky swing. That’s out on July 26.
Then in September comes Endeavour, a three-track affair that occasionally puts us in mind of Floating Points’ hazy jazz-house. You can stream samples of both EPs here (click on the sleeves on the right hand column). For last year’s interview with FaltyDL, click here.
