A 1 minute and 44 seconds long, the latest Madvillain song is definitely a few thousand bars short of being an opera, but both Madlib and Doom are on form.

The backing track takes the rather surreal form of a chopped up euro-pop song with German lyrics, indicative of Madlib’s current obsession with European rock music of the ‘60s and ‘70s.  (see his next release Medicine Show Vol 6 – The Brainwreck Show.) Doom’s meaning is hard to decipher here, rather like the weird German phrasing of “würd ich heut’ oder morgen – irgendwann” which opens the track, but the battle rhyming is on point. By the time you get to the tongue-twister “Pumpin’ dumplin’s a hundred and sumpin’ sumpin’ / Forest Gump chumps get clumps of nuttin’ for nuttin’”, you realise you might as well give up the ghost chasing for meaning and accept that this is simply a fun appetiser for a future Madvillain full length to come. Not bad for a freebie from the crew at Adult Swim, and guaranteed to get the fans braying for a sequel.
