Editions Mego are set to release a new 7″ from Oneohtrix Point Never, featuring reinterpretations of his track ‘Returnal’ by Antony Hegarty and Fennesz.

‘Returnal’ is the title track of the Boston synthesizer wizard’s latest album, which was released earlier this month via Mego to considerable acclaim.

The A-side of the 7″ features a version of the track with vocals by Antony – he of Antony & The Johnsons fame – and piano by Oneohtrix himself, Daniel Lopatin, making for what the label describes as “a poignant ballad”. It was recorded at Lofish in New York in May 2010, engineered and mixed by Alex Nizich.

On the B-side, guitarist and electronic musician Christian Fennesz – whose classic album Endless Summer was released on Mego back in 2001 – weighs in with a typically elegant, affecting remix of ‘Returnal’.

The 7″ boasts artwork by Sunn O))’s Stephen O’Malley (depicted below), and was cut at Dubplates+Mastering in Berlin. It’s due out in August; Mego are taking pre-orders now.

Oneohtrix Point Never is responsible for our latest FACT mix and the subject of a recent in-depth interview here on the site.
