Glasser prepares debut album for True Panther, Ring

Glasser, the “one-women orchestra” that is Cameron Mesirow, will release Ring, her debut album for True Panther in September.

Mesirow made her name on the strength of singles ‘Tremel’ and ‘Apply’, songs that FACT’s Louise Brailey described as “channelling her free flowing sensibility into a rolling GarageBand primitivism that’s pitched somewhere between High Places and Arthur Russell, Panda Bear and Bjork”, reliant on instinct and heart and not classical training.

Meisrow spoke to FACT about Ring in an interview earlier this year, revealing that she was working with Fever Ray’s production team Van Rivers and The Subliminal Kid. Now full details have been announced by the label.

True Panther claim that the album as “named for its chiastic, or “ring”, structure, used in ancient literature, which Cameron became fascinated with while reading Homer’s Odyssey.

“In it, ideas are paired in a symmetrical order, often leading bi-directionally toward a central idea. Cameron structured Ring similarly, with no set beginning or end, with its songs representing fluctuating and often contradictory emotional states with the idea of it being viewed as a singular, cyclical piece.”

You can hear a snippet of Ring’s title track here, and customers who pre-order the album from True Panther / Matador will receive a free mp3 of the track in advance.

There will also be a limited to 500 CD edition with fold-out gift box designed by Tauba Auerbach, and a limited to 500 clear, numbered vinyl edition. The album will be released on September 27 digitally, October 4 physically.

Watch out for Glasser’s FACT mix in the coming weeks.
