Experimental composer and pianist Hauschka will release a new album for FatCat’s 130701 imprint on April 11, titled Salon des Amateurs.

And according to the press release, it sounds like a doozy – though if they didn’t make it sound like one, they’d hardly be doing their job. Salon – named after a piano bar where Hauschka presents an annual festival – apparently sees the Dusseldorf resident take the treated piano experiments that feature heavily in his live show, and twist them into minimalist house and techno structures, with drums and orchestral instrumentation that draws heavily on Kompakt and Cologne.

Guest contributions come from Calexico’s Joe Burns and John Convertino, múm drummer Samuli Kosminen, and violinist Hilary Hahn. The album was recorded at Hauschka’s Studio Zwei space, and will be followed by a series of remix 12″s.
