The Horrors’ frontman Faris Badwan has started a new musical project, Cat’s Eyes.

It’s a collaboration with Canadian opera singer Rachel Zeffira, and basically amounts to a gothy, bombastic take on 60s girl-group pop. Fans of Danielle Dax (if any of them are still alive), Anna Calvi and Zola Jesus will probably find much to like here.

The band’s debut EP, Broken Glass, will be released on February 28 by Polydor. They supposedly made their live debut in December at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, in an afternoon mass attended by high-ranking cardinals. A press release claims that Glass Eyes’ friends sneaked cameras past security in order to film them performing the song ‘I Knew It Was Over’. How this can be anything other than bullshit is beyond us, but check out the video below and judge for yourself.

The EP will be followed by a full-length album, produced by Steve Osborne (New Order, Happy Mondays), out on April 11, with artwork contributions from Chris Cunningham.  You can obtain a free download of the track ‘Not A Friend’ by handing over your e-mail address here.

Cat’s Eyes have three live dates for the UK lined up so far: Manchester St. Philip’s (March 14), Glasgow St. Andrew’s (15) and London (Amadeus Centre, 18).
