Red Bull Music Academy has commenced the application phase for it’s 2011 edition in the utterly singular city of Tokyo.

Starting today, the Academy is inviting talented producers, vocalists, DJs, and instrumentalists from all over the world to apply to be one of the 60 participants who will be chosen to attend. The application form is available to download now from redbullmusicacademy.com, the deadline for submission is April 4, and successful applicants will be flown out to Tokyo to be involved in one of two fortnight-long between October 23 and November 25.

Founded in 1998, the Red Bull Music Academy visits a new city each year, inviting musical legends and luminaries – the likes of Steve Reich, Chuck D, Moritz Von Oswald and Theo Parrish – to share their experience and wisdom with participants. The Academy also hosts workshops and gigs, and provides participants with studio time and unique collaborative opportunities, all under the tutelage of mentors (Benji B, DJ Zinc and James Pants have also played mentoring roles at RBMA in recent years). The 2010 edition took place in London, and featured such esteemed guest speakers as Cosey Fanni Tutti, Moodymann, Dam-Funk and Modeselektor. Recent alumni of RBMA include Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus, Ahu and Jackmaster.

Potential applicants can find all the information they need on the Academy’s official site, but the video below provides a few pointers, and there will also be a series of introductory Red Bull Music Academy Info Sessions taking place at London’s Red Bull Studios in March. More details to follow.
