And now for something completely different. Well, kind of.

The Bronze format, designed by Lexxx, is, effectively, a downloadable audio file played through a Bronze player, in the same way an mp3 is played through iTunes Windows Media Player. It contains, and stabilizes the key parts of the track, but allows the majority of what’s there to be changed at random, so every time you listen, the structure is different. In short, it can endlessly remix itself. And in case you were wondering, this doesn’t mean it will sound terrible half the time: the algorithm involved ensures that every possible iteration makes musical sense.

This application has been debuted with the new downloadable single from Gwilym Gold, former frontman of Golden Silvers. In this case, the artist has set the randomise parameters quite moderately, so the changes are subtle, but in future cases the artist can set them as widely as they want, resulting in more radical reinterpretations from the program. That’s what we’re really excited about.

You can download the single and read more information on Bronze’s potential here. Try it. It’s neat, though at this point it is Mac only.
