There is, essentially, too much music - being produced and listened too. Artists need to ask themselves 'why am I choosing music as a means of expression?'. I prescribe that no one listens to or makes any music for the next five years. Choice is not freedom; constraint sets you free.

For me, Comics have replaced Music as THE artform. (I mean graphic novels, art comics, alternative comix etc) They're democratic, immersive, they have an ambitious discourse around them (see tcj.com), and they can be about anything. In the West they are still yet to reach the level of popularity and recognition they they've gained in Japan (despite all these superhero movies), but their perpetually "emerging" underground status only makes them more vital.

Great interview.

If you head down the East End though, you'll see the Nineties revival is already starting. At the moment it seems to just be a revival of Shoegaze style & people pretending to be on The Word dancing to Haddaway, but perhaps someone will do something creative to it. Perhaps...
