xxxy’s never had a problem going for the jugular. This year’s ‘Ordinary Things’, the Manchester artist’s biggest single to date, featured vocal samples, synth chords and arpeggios all targeted at the most nostalgic corner of your heart, and from the off ‘Open Your Eyes’ feels like a sequel, with sky-surfing chords sweeping you away.

Things get heavier – the drop is a similar exercise in junglist drums to Ramadanman’s ‘Don’t Change for Me’ – but when those chords soar, accompanied by an astral “come on / let’s go somewhere”, you’re left under no illusions: this is deeply romantic, end of the night house music, something that’s swiftly becoming xxxy’s speciality.
