James Pants – who recently relocated to Cologne – has dug into the archive of Germany’s Selected Sound label for a projected series of remix 12″s.

Founded in the early 1970s by Klaus Netzle, Selected Sound and its sub-labels are famous in their own country for their library music recordings which cover jazz, disco, boogie, electro and much else besides.

Focussed on the work of jazz drummer and composer Klaus Weiss (pictured above right), whose late 70s and early 80s work drifted into more experimental and electronic terrain, Selected Sound Remixes Pt.1 EP features two Weiss originals in ‘Drums Around’ (1978) and ‘Drumcrazy’ (1979), with a remix of the former by Pants and of the latter by Tom Noble.

‘Drums Around’ is taken from the Time Signals LP, ‘Drumcrazy’ from the following year’s Sound Inventions. The latter was billed as “many-sided usable music…made for subjects of research and science, sport, reports of any kind, nature, environment-problems, etc.”

The 12″ is due out Faces Records – the French label home to releases from Simbad, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Mono/Poly – on August 22.

Meanwhile, be sure to download James Pants’ FACT mix before its too late.
