Modeselektor have made an official announcement via Twitter that Shed will release his new album on their 50Weapons label.

The album, which there are no details about at present, is expected to see release in Spring/Summer 2012. It will be the German techno producer’s third full-length to date, following Shedding The Past (2008) and The Traveller (2010), both released on Ostgut Ton.

50Weapons is one of two labels curated by Modeselektor (the other being Monkeytown). Originally conceived as an outlet for strictly club-aimed 12″ singles, the label has evolved to accommodate album releases from Cosmin TRG and Anstam, with 2011 LPs also planned for Doc Daneeka & Benjamin Damage and Addison Groove.

And, as previously reported…

For a long time, the hand-stamped techno 12″s on the Equalized label were released anonymously. However, most people familiar with the work of Rene Pawlowitz a.k.a. Shed had little difficult guessing the identity of the producer responsible.

Eventually Shed came forward and owned up, but only once the series had already been established as a force of nature in its own right. Shed himself has described his EQD tracks as straightforward material for the club, but he’s doing himself a disservice: there’s real artistry to the best Equalized 12″s, especially #002, with its mournful, breakbeat-led B-side that sounds like a collision of early Carl Craig and early UK jungle (you can listen to clips of both sides above).

A new Equalized 12″ was unveiled last week, but the bigger news – we learn via Resident Advisor – is that he’s collected all the EQD tracks – from the five 12″s released between 2007-11 – for a compilation he’s calling Equalized #111. Any more detailed information is scarce at this time, but the comp is slated for a December release and will presumably be a CD and digital affair.
