BTJunkie, one of the Internet’s biggest Torrent agitators and search engines, voluntarily shut its doors today, posting the above message on all of its pages [via Dummy]: “This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down.
“We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate”, it continues, “but it’s time to move on. It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!”
For the unfamiliar, Torrents differ from normal file-hosting / file-sharing sites, because it allows for users to download files from a combination of other users, or peers, meaning it’s far harder to pin the blame on the original uploaders. As a result, they’re often the first place a freshly leaked album will emerge online.
