An unreleased track from the original Slum Village line-up has resurfaced online.

‘Tell Me’ (also the title of a track from their 2000 album Fantastic, Vol II) is a brilliantly dusty piece of boom-bap, cobbled together in the days before J Dilla even owned a drum machine. One of the earliest tracks recorded under the ‘Slum Village’ moniker, it features Dilla on the mic alongside Baatin and T3.

It’s not the only Slum Village related news to have broken in the last week. Despite the death of founder member Baatin in 2010, the group will be returning this year with a new record. The current line-up – T3, Young RJ and Illa J – are working on the third record in the much-loved Fantastic series.
