Last year, Mos Def pulled a Diddy and started performing under an alternative alias, the spellchecker-proof Yasiin Bey.

As Potholes In My Blog report, the MC/actor made a live appearance on France’s Radio Nova earlier this week. Having already performed his ‘Niggas In Poorest’ track – which takes the braggadocio of the J&K original and flips it on its head – Bey dropped a new Dilla-produced track, titled ‘Sunshine Screwface’.

Spitting into a ruby-red vintage mic, Bey kicks things off with some faux-dancehall toasting and a rewind. The beat, heavy on the horns, is lightweight and throwback. Bey’s flow is nimble and elastic to start, although he loses his momentum (and possibly his way) about halfway through the cut. But it’s a lot of fun to see Bey larking about in such close proximity. Dilla’s beat brings the summer, Bey’s bug-eyed delivery supplies the screwface.
