Flaming Lips Record Store Day release to include the blood of collaborators

As we reported a while back, the Flaming Lips are planning a bumper set of collaborations for their one-off Record Store Day release this year.

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends will feature contributions from an extraordinary list of collaborators including Erykah Badu, Nick Cave, Yoko Ono, Lighting Bolt, Prefuse 73, Bon Iver and more.

Never content with anything even approaching the mundane, though, the Lips have gone one further with their latest plan for the release. Speaking to MTV Hive, Wayne Coyne outlined his intention to include miniature vials of collaborators’ blood alongside the record. Apparently it’s a work in progress: “I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet,” he said, “but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak”. We don’t want to be the ones to burst Wayne’s bubble, but surely there are Health and Safety issues to be considered?
