As layered and jittery the instrumentation of their popular ‘Stillness Is the Move’ was, that of ‘Gun Has No Trigger’ is just as low-key and loose. The rhythm section shuffle along all by themselves, with all focus directed to Dave Longstreth’s shaky voice cutting through the female band members’ spooky harmonies. It’s a dramatic performance for sure, and suits the lyrics about power and helplessness, while the background vocals sound more and more like walls closing in on Longstreth.
