i had that mentality, i used to "why the fuck does everyone go on about vinyl". Then i started buying it. Sure its a medium and it songs and its no different or change the feeling. But i often found that via digging at my local record shop 2-3 days a week id find things that blew me away that i could not find online, couldn't find on the net, or was a shit quality mp3. I started being a better selector, because im not gonna spend $15 on a track i think is "moderately okay" i only buy shit i really like, which in turn means i find labels i really like, artists i really like, record stores that stock shit that i really like - it all has a sense of community and individuality to it - thats why i like it, i sure as hell can find them on mp3 and i still do buy mp3s sometimes, but i wouldn't have found these artists or these labels without the record. buying vinyl made me a better deej fo sho - i love it ^_^ - i could contribute more, but hey its just me, i like doing it, the guy at the record store is a complete awesome dude, finds music for me, knows my taste, puts in the effort and knows i do too - along with everyone else at the shop, its a community i want to support because id rather give my money to a guy working his ass off, than $1.69 to beatport.
