Last we heard from André 3000, he was looning about with James Murphy and Damon Albarn.

Pitchfork report that the Outkast star will don his antique military jacket for a new film biopic of Jimi Hendrix. The film, titled All Is By My Side, is set to begin shooting in Ireland in three weeks.

All Is By My Side will document Hendrix’s stint in the UK in 1966-7, during which he recorded his seminal debut Are You Experienced. The flick is penned by John Henry, writer of Three Kings (starring, lest we forget, former rappers Ice Cube and Mark Wahlberg).

André’s already made a fair few appearances in front of the camera. He starred in 2006 Outkast vehicle Idlewild, has popped up in episodes of The Shield and About A Girl, and voiced ‘Elwyn The Crow’ in a film version of Charlotte’s Web. He’s not the only smooth-voiced pop star set to grace our screens in the near future: Usher is due to step into the ring as Sugar Ray Leonard.
