It’s been a while since DJ Clent has had a dedicated solo release on a label outside of Chicago, so it is all the more refreshing to see fledgling UK label Blank Mind use its second release to put out two cuts from one of ghetto/booty house’s original dons.

Side A shows Clent in footwork mode with tense, twisting keyboard trumpets spiralling anxiously around thumping toms, claps and woodblocks and grim half-time passages. B side ‘Hit It From The Back’, meanwhile, is a classic A/B structure 8-bar batty bouncer, 150bpm of classic, shuffling, repetitive filth built around the recognisable title sample.

BLNK002 is out officially on May 28, but apparently there are some advance copies floating around already if you know where to look.
