Rejoice: LV and Joshua Idehen are back sharing wax on a new remix.

The combo’s 2011 LP Routes was an absolute corker, the sort of disc that dazzles at first glance and only brightens with age. The record was shot through with a ramshackle English charm – it’s probably the closest thing this decade has had so far to an Original Pirate Material. Frequently mournful, sometimes cheeky, and often extremely pretty, it’s a revelatory set. So it’s an unmitigated pleasure to hear that camps LV and Idehen have crossed paths again.

Benin City is Joshua Idehen’s day job, a musical project combining spoken word with delicately wrought electronica. Benin City’s original version of ‘Baby’ was a bruised bit of urban yearning straight from the Ghostpoet school of broken hearts. LV’s remix is markedly perkier. Those familiar pointillist drum hits set the tone from the off. Idehen’s vocal is shredded and filtered, and there are all sorts of plinky touches. That aching wistfulness that LV and Idehen are so good at cooking up together is kept beautifully intact. We can’t wait to hear the next stop on the line.
