Much has been made of Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch formidable spirit in the weeks since his death. New insights from Mike D suggest that Yauch was indeed made of unusually stern stuff.

Yauch passed away earlier this month at the age of 47. According to NME, all three Beastie Boys collaborated on new music in late 2011, despite Yauch being severely unwell with throat cancer.

In Diamond’s words, relayed to Rolling Stone: “Adam instigated it. It could only come from him, in terms of where he was at with his cancer treatment. He wasn’t sure he was able to do vocals but after a bit we ended up doing them. It was a way for him to say, ‘Yeah, I’m doing it’.”

Diamond also offers a moving insight into the process of losing his collaborator and friend (“He had us fooled in the most beautiful way. I believed, up to last week, that Adam was somehow coming back”). Intriguingly, Diamond suggests that he and fellow Beastie Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz might well be making music together in the future, albeit under a new moniker. “I can see making music. I don’t know about a band format. But Yauch would genuinely want us to try whatever crazy thing we wanted but never got around to.”
