The last time Jay-Z was drafted in for an OST, it was for Ridley Scott’s 2007 drugland thriller American Gangster.

Jay-Z’s next excursion into Hollywood is on something of a different tip. NME report that the rapper will write new material for a modern day reboot of 1982 film Annie. The new version will feature Will Smith’s sprog Willow as the titular ingenue, and Emma Thompson will pen the screenplay (Smith the elder is also on board as producer).

Jay-Z will allegedly producer a number of new tracks for the soundtrack. Lest we forget, Jay’s 1998 single ‘Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)’ sampled conspicuously from the musical. We’re hoping this isn’t the first children’s film/rapper team up – Waka Flocka’s Bugsy Malone OST, anyone?
