With 26 albums under their collective belt, The Melvins aren’t ones to do things by halves.

The veteran grunge antecedents have announced a new US tour, but there’s a typically impish a twist. According to Prefix, the Washington combo are going to attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the fastest US tour by a band. The whistlestop tour will take in 52 shows in 51 days.

The touring line-up will feature Buzz Osborne, Trevor Dunn and Dale Crover. As with their most recent album, Freak Puke, The Melvins will be touring under the guise of Melvins Lite.

In Osborne’s words: “51 shows in 50 states plus one 1 in D.C. and all in 51 days? Jeez! I wonder if we can do it?” They’re not the only musicians having a pop at the history books: The Flaming Lips are taking on Jay-Z’s record for the highest number of live shows in 24 hours in multiple cities.
