Rude Kid, one of the more successful examples of grime’s new breed, has a fresh single en route.

The No Hats No Hoods affiliate is set to release heat-grabber ‘Get Busy’ late next month on Relentless. The original has been floating around in instrumental form since 2011, and the fully mastered official version features a spirited cameo from Skepta (“Hate racism, love bassline”, indeed). The single includes remixes from funky upstarts Funkystepzs, plus Kat Krazy and Matrix & Futurebound. Leeds dial-twiddler Jamie Grind rounds out the tracklisting, and FACT have an exclusive download of his take on Rude Kid’s original.

The original begins as a dusty rave throwback, then unexpectedly morphs into a sinewy brostep racket. Jamie Grind, by contrast, turns out something that wouldn’t look out place on the shelves of Numbers’ warehouse. Bar a little extra syncopation and a touch of re-pitching, there’s not an enormous amount of difference between the original and the refix; Jamie Grind imports the chord stabs wholesale, and deploys Rude Kid’s vocal samples to similar effect. A touch-up rather than an overhaul, but one that identifies Rude Kid’s strong points and runs with them.

The ‘Get Busy’ single is due on July 29.
