Ducktails working with Oneohtrix Point Never on new album

When he’s not knocking out adorable indie-pop with Real Estate, Matthew Mondanile follows an odder muse as Ducktails.

Ducktails’ woozy, deep-fried psychedelia has been doing the rounds since 2007, and has previously found a home on the likes of Not Not Fun and Olde English Spelling Bee. His latest album, last year’s III: Arcade Dynamics, was probably his punchiest statement to date, the melodies peaking through the fog more boldly than ever before. Mondanile, it should be noticed, also helms the worthwhile New Images label, which recently released Madalyn Merkey’s excellent Scent LP.

News has now emerged about Ducktails latest release, and Mondanile has reportedly roped in a host of friends and special guests to appear. Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin will feature on the record, as will Lopatin’s regular co-conspirator Joel Ford. Members of indie outfits Cults, Big Troubles, Outer Limits, Future Shuttle and, predictably, Real Estate will also pop along for the ride. Release details have yet to be set in stone, but it’s expected to arrive before the end of the year. [via Pitchfork]
