Can I just ask which room in Corsica? I DJ'd there and asked the engineer to turn the bass down, which improved the sound a lot (in my opinion).

a lot of it is making sure your club engineer sets the speakers up right for you. in a lot of smaller clubs i like it cause i right next to every on but that leaves little room for a mix monitor so a lot of promoters will just turn the main monitors AT ME which i hate. i've had mild tinnitus since i was a kid i've always played music and worked in radio along with my dad i have learned from him it doesn't matter if they look silly wear ear plugs

i went for a work related audiometry test a few days ago and it seems i have a big dip in sensitivity in my right ear around 4khz. i blame myself for monitoring on my headphones full tilt while dj'ing. it was quite scary to see the depth of the damage in front of me on paper.

Well done for bringing attention to this issue. I got Tinnitus aged 24. I've lived it with for a few years and once the damage is done, you are fucked, for most people there's no way to reverse the damage. I was a dick and never put idamagedlugs when DJing and listening to music. I wish I had looked after my hearing. When I went to the audiologist he said he was dealing with a whole wave of people under 30 with tinnitus who in many cases, partial or total hearing loss.
Look after your hearing! It's precious!

I always tell ppl next to me on the tube if their headphones are too loud, not because it annoys me but because of the damage to their ears.

A lot of the problems are caused by the quality of the sound systems and the way that DJs use them. Most large PA's use a compression driver to deliver their high frequencies, and these drivers have an inherent problem once you get to a certain level, in that there is so much power being delivered through a small hole, that the sound waves fall over themselves and end up distorted. There's no exact science in this but it is believed to be so by speaker companies like Funktion 1 and Traction Sound who design their speakers to deliver HF in a different way. Secondly, most DJs decide to push their mixers into the red to try and get the volume louder, but only manage to distort the signal going to the speakers. So a combination of volume and bad signal and sound delivery is at fault. Clubs and DJs are not doing enough to protect the ears of the very people who pay their wages and keep their venues running and it needs to be addressed.

Corsica's sound system is definitely the harshest I've ever experienced.
