Tring house cat Huxley is on the cusp of releasing his first commercial mix CD.

The compilation will arrive courtesy of 1trax, and is on a syncopated house tip: Jordan Peak, Julio Bashmore and Sebo K all feature, as will Huxley’s breakthrough ‘Let It Go’. Confronted with the tracklisting, one of the more interesting inclusions was Huxley’s remix of house golden girl Maya Jane Coles. The track is now available to sample, and it shows Huxley on fairly restrained form.

Coles’ original version was a deep and sensuous number, shot through with the sort of gentle chill you’d expect from Trentemøller. Huxley’s take is altogether knucklier. The hi-hats cut through the wooze, ands Huxley chucks in some jolly Rhodes stabs for emphasis. ‘Dazed’ is definitely more conventional than its source material – it’s not a scrap of a patch on ‘Let It Go’ – but it’s executed with spirit and finesse nonetheless.
