The chorus to ‘Changes’ promises that “things won’t change until we do,” a lesson LOL Boys have taken to heart.

The Los Angeles via Montreal duo, comprised of Jerome Potter and Markus Garcia, has been busy as of late, collaborating with Hot City and co-owning Body High. Now, they’re set to release a new EP.

The title-track of their first release on Friends of Friends (out July 31) is a departure of sorts for LOL Boys. Over the last couple of years, they’ve made their name with tropical, hyperkinetic dance music. ‘Changes,’ which features Montreal vocal duo Heart Streets, is pure R&B, with jazzy drums and brassy horns weaved throughout. Original vocals are a welcome change in a genre that’s been dominated by oversampled chanteuses for a while now.

In addition to another track with Heart Streets, Changes features singer Angelina Lucero and remixes by Shlohmo and Anenon.
