In ‘To Who Knows Where,’ James Iha spends equal time shoegazing and stargazing.

The video feels like a 70s B-movie – one in particular, actually. Filmed in the desert of Joshua Tree, California by director Adam Neustadter, the video is influenced by David Bowie’s 1976 film The Man Who Fell to Earth. The proceedings feel like a trailer to a sci-fi romance.

Sonically, Iha’s jangly guitar-pop owes much to the melodic side of the Smashing Pumpkins; Iha sings with the same mellow lilt as on ‘Take Me Down’ and his solo debut, 1998’s Let It Come Down. The appropriately-titled Look to the Sky was released earlier this year in Japan and will be out worldwide September 18.
