In an interview with DJ Drama, the Young Money founder says “rap’s taken a backseat to skating.”

The last few years have been unkind to Lil Wayne, between ill-advised forays into rap-rock, the disappointing Tha Carter IV, and of course, his prison stay for a weapon’s charge. So maybe it’s no surprise that he will be taking a break from rap after the August 15 release of the Dedication 4 mixtape.

“I feel like the fans deserve a lil no Wayne. I’ve been everywhere. I’ve been out on everybody’s song, I’m still on everybody’s song, my artists are doing awesome. I believe the fans deserve some peace from me. I be on my skateboard in the meantime,” he told DJ Drama (stream the full interview below).

Lil Wayne’s skateboarding hobby has apparently surpassed his hunger to rap: “I spend more time on the skateboard, ’cause even at the studio I have ramps and shit. In the booth literally I have something I can boardslide on and a quarter pipe. So I get off the mic, drop the board down and skate.” [via Rolling Stone]
