The xx team up with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra

The xx will team up with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for part of a new concert series this Autumn.

The Coexist-ers have been commissioned by the station to write an original work with composer Alex Baranowski for the show, part of the second BBC Philharmonic Presents… festival, a free series of September gigs held across various venues in the North of England.

As well as the xx, who will perform by the sea in Bridlington on September 19, the concert series will feature Richard Hawley, an evening of songs from James Bond films hosted by Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo, and a Miles Davis night. FACT readers may remember last year’s inaugural BBC Philharmonic Festival as the stage for Nero’s “dubstep symphony” with the orchestra. If you’d successfully managed to forget that, then apologies for bringing it to attention again.

The xx’s new album, Coexist, will be released next month. You can stream the first single from it, ‘Angels’, below.
