The postmodern country crooner joins the venerable indie label.

Earlier this year, Daughn Gibson emerged with the ethereal All Hell on White Denim, channeling Johnny Cash as much as Nicolas Jaar. Gibson’s past was almost too good to be true: apart from being the former drummer for stoner metal band Pearls and Brass, the Pennsylvanian spent time as a truck driver.

It’s not a stretch to suggest the blue collar work informed his dreary debut. Thankfully, the hard work paid off: Gibson has signed to Sub Pop, where he will release a follow-up to All Hell next year. To mark the occasion, he recorded ‘Reach Into The Fire.’

The propulsive tune resembles All Hell‘s ‘Lookin’ Back on ’99,’ and samples his new labelmates: ‘An echo from the hosts that profess infinitum’ by Shabazz Palaces and both ‘Life on Earth’ and ‘Slow Motion’ by Tiny Vipers. Listen to ‘Reach Into The Fire’ below, and check out Gibson’s upcoming tour dates. [via Pitchfork]
