Oneohtrix Point Never readies split LP with fellow synth-wielder Rene Hell

Oneohtrix Point Never and Rene Hell have collaborated on a split LP.

It’s a pairing that makes sense: both Oneohtrix and the less established Hell (though his 2010 album, Porcelain Opera, was a big favourite here at FACT) have been seperately exploring dissolved kosmische for quite some time.

Released through NNA Tapes (home of Laurel Halo’s Antenna album and more), the split finds each artist taking a side of vinyl each: according to a press release, Hell [right]’s side, ‘In 1980 I Was a Blue Square’, “interwaves piano, synthesiser and computer elements into mid-20th century classical music with chaotic electronic beats”, while Oneohtrix’s, ‘Music for Reliquary House;’, features the music from Reliquary House, his 2011 video installation with Nate Boyce [via Exclaim].

You can listen to samples of the split here, and also pre-order it: release date is September 17 for Europe, September 18 for North America.

As well as this, Oneohtrix is working on a collaborative “free jazz/electronic” album with Canadian ambient wizard Tim Hecker. That’s due for release on Oneohtrix’s Software label – the pair will also be collaborating at this year’s Unsound festival.
