Laurel Halo, DJ Sprinkles and Benedict Cumberbatch to feature on Friendly Fires' LateNightTales

The 30th edition of the ongoing LateNightTales mix series – previously home to the likes of Four Tet, Trentemøller and Belle And Sebastian – will arrive from dance-inflected indie combo Friendly Fires.

It’s definitely a wide-ranging selection, tilting from electro-pop (Junior Boys’ ‘Under The Sun’) to sleazy disco (Dennis Parker’s ‘Love Like An Eagle’) to jaunty pastoral (‘Don’t Summarize My Summer Eyes’). Laurel Halo gets a nod, as does Terre Thaemlitz’s house experiments under the DJ Sprinkles moniker.

The requisite spoken word coda arrives courtesy of thinking woman’s crumpet Benedict Cumberbatch, reading a “new bedtime story” called ‘Flat Of Angles (Part 1)’. The tracklisting is perhaps a tad too zany for its own good – Slowdive into Olivia Newton John, anyone? – but it still looks like an admirably eclectic selection.

Friendly Fires’ LateNightTales is due on November 5. In other, alliterative news, Friendly Fires recently teamed up with Foals to form a new label, DEEP SHIT.
