Marina and the Diamonds video delayed by label, allegedly because she looks "ugly" in it

Marina Diamandis says the video for ‘How To Be A Heartbreaker’ was delayed by her record label.

Via Twitter, the sugary singer-songwriters says that “someone at my record label wont let me release the video bc I look ugly in it apparently + we need more $ / time to paint out ugly parts.” While the video has been pushed back from Monday until later this week, Diamandis says she will be “happy to leak the ‘minger’ version for my fans.”

According to The Guardian, Marina and the Diamonds is signed in the UK to Warner Music subsidiary 679 Artists, who also took to Twitter to deny involvement (“wasn’t our decision, stop sending death threats, etc etc”). The band is signed to Atlantic in the US, who looks to be the culprit, as ‘How To Be A Heartbreaker’ is a US-only album track on Electra Heart; stream it below.

This isn’t the first time a label has been publicly outed for its negative opinion of an artist’s appearance, especially when the artist is a female singer-songwriter. In 2008, Roadrunner made former-signee Amanda Palmer (who is never shy of controversy) to cut shots from the video for ‘Leeds United’ because they thought she looked “too fat.” The label’s comments led to a fan protest celebrating the female body.
