Australian greenhorn Flume has enjoyed something of a minor hit with last year’s ‘Sleepless’

The 20 year old’s signature track is a showy (and, admittedly, chintzy) house cut, augmented with ringtone synths and some Ellie Goulding-style vocals. An atmospheric rework from Midland gave the original some welcome gravitas, and a new take from California-bred beat kid Shlohmo also finds hidden depths behind Flume’s surface dazzle.

The mix, hosted over at Dazed, sees Shlohmo exercising some of the tricks he employed so effectively on last year’s Bad Vibes. Heavy-browed synth work and haptic drum programming are the order of the day. Granted, some of the sampling is a shade inelegant, but Shlohmo manages to turn out a hypnotic revision of an original that doesn’t demand a second glance.
