Leading grime label Butterz switches to a six-man operation

Not earth-shattering news here, but an interesting development in the life of one of grime’s premier labels.

Butterz was founded in 2010, launching with Terror Danjah’s ‘Bipolar’. Since then it’s housed releases from Royal-T, Swindle, S-X, Champion and more, with DJ duo Elijah and Skilliam at the helm.

That all changes today. A post on the Butterz Facebook page explains that the label is now a six-person operation, with founders Elijah and Skilliam, artists Terror Danjah, Royal-T and Swindle, and Dane Bradshaw from London-based promotions company Two Plates in charge of operations.

What this means for the direction of the label, we don’t know – following a 2011 that saw six releases, 2012 has only seen three, though part of that is to do with the problems and delays suffered by Swindle & Silkie’s collaborative single ‘Unlimited’.
